Join Brighton Festival Chorus
Brighton Festival Chorus is a large and hardworking choir with an impressive portfolio. The Chorus has performed in a wide variety of venues, both at home and abroad, including major concert halls such as the Royal Albert Hall, The Royal Festival Hall, The Barbican, Symphony Hall Birmingham, The Bridgewater Hall and Glyndebourne. We have also enjoyed performing in the splendour of open air events at Leeds Castle and the city centre of Lille and in the captivating atmospherics of smaller venues such as Maîtrise de la Cathédrale de Metz and the unique St Bartholomew’s Church in Brighton. We are privileged to be able to work with many of the world’s most notable conductors, soloists and orchestras.
To be part of this large chorus (over 170 voices) is an amazing experience and under the dedication and enthusiasm of James Morgan, our Music Director, the Chorus has gone from strength to strength and is one of the most sought-after choirs in the country. Our standards are high and we work hard whilst remaining a very sociable group with a great collective sense of humour.
Please contact us if you would like to find out more about being a member of Brighton Festival Chorus. We are delighted to hear from those who are interested in joining at any time. We have a short, straightforward audition process and to find out more about this please contact our Auditions Secretary.
We traditionally hold an Open Rehearsal each autumn, when we open our doors to those who would like to come along, join in for an evening, and find out more about membership.
To find out more, see Forthcoming Performances & Events (click on Performances, then click on Forthcoming). Alternatively, see Find Out More below.
Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening from 7.15pm to 9.45pm, usually at the Medical School Lecture Theatre at the University of Sussex, Falmer, near Brighton. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled at busy times, if required. For a site map of the University campus, see https://www.sussex.ac.uk/webteam/gateway/file.php?name=campusmap.pdf&site=271 (number 47).
There is no formal subscription for the Chorus. Instead, members make an voluntary annual contribution, to cover all music hire, coach travel to and from concert venues outside Brighton and subsistence on foreign tours. The level of the suggested contribution is decided each year at the AGM. We welcome a higher contribution from those members who are able to afford it, and a lower contribution from those who cannot (e.g. students and the unwaged). However, any contribution is voluntary.
